This guide will show you how to use MagicInfo's Schedule feature to play specific Content at pre-determined days and times on your displays.

Step 1: Log in to MagicInfo

Step 2: Open the Schedule Manager

  • Click on "Schedule" in the menu bar on the left

  • You can see a list of all existing Content Schedules in the main view. Clicking on any of these entries will allow you to view their current settings, edit, or delete them

  • There are 3 types of Schedules you can create in MagicInfo:
    • Content: Allows you to schedule uploaded Content (photos and videos) or Playlists to play on your displays. This is the most common type of schedule used for Digital Signage
    • Message: Schedule a custom text-based message to play on your displays. This is useful for businesses who want to provide easy to read information and can be paired with translations for local languages
    • Event: Create custom actions that trigger when certain conditions are met. For example, you can have specific content show on your display when a customer triggers a web-connected door sensor, or when they make a particular gesture in front of a camera. This requires third-party hardware with a Datalink to function properly

Step 3: Create a Schedule

  • Click "New Schedule"

  • Select "Content" to continue

  • Choose which generation(s) of displays you would like the schedule to support, from S6 (newest) to S2 (oldest)

  • This guide will cover "General" Schedules. To learn about creating other schedule types please use the links below. Select the type of Schedule you would like to create:
    • General: This is the most used type of schedule, it allows you to choose when certain content plays on a single display. Schedules can be assigned to multiple displays, but when you use General type you cannot sync the schedule across multiple devices simultaneously, so transitions may occur at slightly different times even if all the displays are using the same schedule.
    • Video Wall: This allows you to have oversized content play on adjacent displays to give the effect of a much larger display. Useful for banner messages and animated video menus.
    • Sync Play: Allows you to sync the transitions between content or playlists across multiple displays. This is useful for creating an effect similar to the Video Wall but with the flexibility to have different pieces of content play with each transition. So if you have Content A, B, C, and D and 2 displays, you can have Display 1 show Content A while Display 2 shows Content B, then transition to showing Content C and D, then A and C, then B and D, etc.
    • Advertisement: This lets you schedule content to play in blocks for a set length of time and/or number of times throughout the day. It is useful for displaying time-relevant content such as daily/weekly lunch specials without having to put all-day content like menus into separate schedule blocks throughout the day, and ensures each piece of content only plays a certain number of times. An example of good usage would be a series of ads for various lunch specials with every other image being a countdown to the end of lunch, and once it's done playing the display returns to showing the regular menu.

  • After selecting "General" click "Create" to open the Schedule Editor

Step 4: Editing a Schedule

  • Use the drop-down in the menu bar on the left to choose "Content", "Playlist", "Input Source", or "Ruleset" for importing into the schedule

  • Click and drag the Content, Playlist, Input Source, or Ruleset from the left panel to the week view calendar panel on the right to create a Schedule Block

  • You can click and drag the top and bottom edges of the Schedule Block to change the start and end times

  • Right clicking will allow you to move the Schedule Block up or down in the hierarchy. This is used when you have multiple blocks of scheduled content like having a Main Menu that never changes as well as a daily menu which plays for certain hours of the day then goes back to the Main Menu. An example might be a college café which has an all-day menu from 8am-6pm Monday through Friday but also has specific items available on certain days at certain times like having a Lunchtime Taco Tuesday from 11am-2pm. Placing the Main Menu block underneath the Taco Tuesday block means that, from 8am to 11am the Main Menu will play, then the Taco Tuesday menu will play from 11am to 2pm, then it returns to the Main Menu until 6pm when the café closes. This is an easy way to let you use just a single scheduled content or playlist for the Main Menu instead of having to create a new playlist that includes the Main Menu and the Daily Special Menu for each different day of the week. Then if you have to cancel or change the Daily Special Menu for any given day you don't have to create a new Playlist without that content, you can just delete it from the Schedule

  • Left Click the Schedule Block you've added to change its settings

  • Use the drop-down menu to select how often the Schedule Block will repeat
    • Once: Will only play once, this is useful for holiday content
    • Daily: Repeats every day of the week, this is useful for long-term content like an all-day menu that doesn't change throughout the year
    • Weekly: Allows you to select which days of the week the content will play, this is useful for businesses with different weekday and weekend menus
    • Monthly: Allows you to select specific days in each month for the content to play, this could be useful for showing content on payday or if your business runs specials on certain numbered days like "Nine Dollar 9ths" where every month on the 9th customers can get an item for $9

  • Choose the playback date range if you want the content to start or stop playing on a certain date in the future, otherwise check the box to "Never Expire" and the content will run indefinitely based on the previously selected repetition rate

  • Choose the playback time as an alternative to clicking and dragging the handle of the Schedule Block in calendar view. This lets you set the start and end time of playback for the Schedule Block on any given day it's playing. You can also check the box for "24 hours" to have it run from 12:00am to 11:59pm on each day the Schedule Block plays.

  • Click "Save" to commit the changes and publish the schedule to your Display
